Extension Professional I/II - VentureLab (42513)

Serving within the Research Faculty of The Institute, this position directly supports the extension, service, and economic development missions of Georgia Tech to the State of Georgia and beyond. Primarily, this role will support the curriculum based program design and implementation for VentureLab’s I-Corps team. The incumbent will oversee program marketing, curriculum development; provide instruction, and coaching to faculty and graduate students that foster startup growth.

Major Responsibilities:

  • Serve as Venture Catalyst and strategic consultant (in business model development) for early-stage technology startup clients through customer discovery and minimum viable product development.
  • Cultivate and manage relationships with prospective business advisors, business partners, investors, and university incubators across the Southeastern United States.
  • Develop and deliver evidence-based entrepreneurship methodologies to faculty and graduate students.
  • Assist in recruiting academic and non-academic startup teams for programs as necessary.
  • Collaborate in the design and development of course curriculum, and presentations.
  • Access the business potential of faculty and graduate student’s startup projects.
  • Spearhead the development and implementation of new social media and marketing initiatives.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Basic Qualifications:

Education: Bachelor's degree in Education, Business, Engineering, Communication, or related/relevant field.

Work Experience: Five years of job-related experience (or equivalent combination of education and work experience).

Skills: Excellent verbal and written communications skills, and effective presentation skills; Ability to build and maintain customer relationships; Aptitude in learning new technologies quickly; planning program design and implementation; strong troubleshooting, writing/editing; current knowledge of lean startup practices and innovation.

Travel: This position requires up to 20% travel. 

Preferred Qualifications:

Preferred Education: MBA and/or Master’s Degree in related/relevant field.

Preferred Work Experience: Preferred applicant backgrounds include (1) Early-stage technology startup experience. (2) Evidence-based entrepreneurship instruction experience.

Preferred Skills: Planning and implementing social media strategies for organizations.

Extension Professional I – Positions filled at this level are candidates who possess a minimum of a bachelor’s degree and who will be performing on a professional level.

Extension Professional II – Positions filled at this level are candidates who possess a master’s degree and three years of relevant full-time experience after degree completion; a master’s degree and five years of relevant full-time experience after degree completion; or a doctoral degree.

Georgia Tech Extension Professionals are research personnel that fulfill the extension and service mission of Georgia Tech to the State of Georgia and beyond.  This mission includes, but is not limited to, technology-based economic development, technology commercialization and deployment, entrepreneurship, start-up company incubation, and business/industry outreach.  Extension Professionals also provide educational programs for business and industry in support of these missions through facilitating and fostering increased industrial engagement and sponsorship of applied research activities at Georgia Tech.  Extension Professional appointments are based on the merit and special qualifications of the individual and follow the same general ranking, hiring, and promotion principles as other professional research faculty ranks.
