This is a non-tenure track research faculty position at the level of Research Scientist. This position is based on sponsored funds; employment and assignments are contingent upon outside funding.  

 

Description

Assist with execution of non-clinical testing studies for medical products.  Serve in multiple roles as needed, including Non-GLP Principal Investigator and GLP Study Director on safety studies with limited scope.  Participate in cross-functional study teams, particularly with Preclinical Operations staff to ensure the requirements/tasks of the respective protocols and the execution of the actions/milestones called out in the corresponding project plan are achieved. Collaborate with senior Program Managers, management, Sponsors and 3rd party service providers to provide service.

 

Responsibilities

- Apply scientific principles in the use of protocols and scientific/test methods, and ensure accurate and timely reporting of data. Read, understand and integrate study proposals, protocols, policies, procedures, test methods. Define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.

- Generate cost estimates for review and perform reconciliation of actual costs.

- Support provision of inputs for final deliverables on-time, on-budget and according to established quality standards.

- Present information to all levels of the organization, get commitment and achieve needed outcomes and objectives.

- Develop and apply working knowledge of Good Laboratory Practices and best practices for medical product development.

- Develop ability to lead Good Laboratory Practice studies of limited scope as Study Director. Actively take on several Non-GLP studies as Principal Investigator.

- Attend industry conferences and business meetings as needed fitting with the marketing plan in support of Program and Training Management and Business Development to generate and build customer relationships.

- Perform other related duties as assigned

This job requires advanced knowledge of lab animal or pre-clinical biomedical testing in a contract research organization or academic laboratory; Working knowledge of medical product research work and project management; Demonstrated experience with basic office applications. Knowledge of project management, publishing and accounting software applications, is preferred.  Experience in managing cost centers, strategic planning and forecasting preferred.  Hands on operational experience and ability to interact successfully with staff at many economic, educational, and professional levels within and outside the organization.

This position will interact on a regular basis with: management, internal and external staff. This position typically will advise and counsel: management, internal and external staff. 

 

Credentials and Experience

Minimum requirements include:

  • Bachelor's degree from accredited 4-year college or university in biomedical engineering, biology, physiology, molecular biology, or related field
  • Minimum 3 to 4 years job related experience, including 2 years of medical product research work as a Principal Investigator involving AAALAC, GLP and USDA protocol and regulations.

Preferred qualifications include:

  • Graduate degree
  • Minimum of 8 years of experience in lab animal or pre-clinical biomedical testing in CRO or academic laboratory; 4 years experience with project management.
